What is a transaction confirmation

A transaction confirmation is the process of adding a transaction to the blockchain. It is needed to prevent the same funds from being spent twice. As soon as the sender transfers the money, the transaction is broadcast to the network to be included in a block. Each subsequent block in the chain counts as an additional confirmation. Once a transaction gathers enough confirmations, it is considered complete and the funds arrive at their destination. The speed depends on network load, the transfer fee and your internet connection. Confirmation usually takes from half an hour to a few hours, and during periods of heavy network load it can take up to 2–14 days.
